PPSPP brings Sony PSP emulation to Android

The free and open-source PPSPP app has hit the Google Play Store, opening out the world of Sony PSP games to Android devices.

PPSPP demands a pretty up to date system for smooth gaming and like other platform emulators it works by loading ROMS, which can be obtained by ripping currently held titles, or eagle-eyed gamers might find them available online somewhere too…

Games that have been confirmed as working successfully with PPSPP include Wipeout, GTA Vice City and Liberty City Stories, Little Big Planet and Final Fantasy: Type-O.

The app is free to download with ads or $5.99 for the ad-free version.

Thanko straps on for iPhone lanyard

Thanko has announced a product that seems a little too practical, sensible and tame given their delightful history of innovation.

This, however, will probably be a success as it’s a sensible rigid hook that lets a lanyard or strap securely attach to an iPhone 6 / iPhone 6 Plus, meaning safety, security and the ability to add any amount of accessories (see below for some inspiring ideas!).

The hook is put in place by removing the two screws at the bottom of the iPhone 6/6 Plus and replacing them with the bracket. Easy!

It’s out at the nice price of ¥1,280 ($10.80).

China cracks down on cartoon and gaming sites, including those run by Tencent, Baidu

Another day, another bunch of Chinese websites biting the dust. China’s perpetual quest for a squeaky-clean internet goes on, and while the smut on state-run media sitesunsurprisingly hasn’t been affected, other sites are feeling the sting. The latest victims are a number of anime and gaming websites, including sites operated by Tencent, Baidu, and Qihoo 360.

China’s Ministry of Culture announced Tuesday that in December, it investigated and punished nine cartoon websites, including Tencent’s animation portal site, for containing illegal content like excessive violence, gambling, and “lewd” material. The punishment included fines, confiscation of the offending materials, and an order to clean up their act. Specific columns on some of the sites, including Tencent’s, were also shuttered permanently.

The Ministry also shut down ten other animation websites which were found to be operating without permits.

On the gaming side, the Ministry investigated and punished 13 app platforms, including those operated by Baidu and Qihoo 360, for containing mobile games with illegal content like excessive violence, gambling, and “lewd” material. The platforms were fined and ordered to delete the offending mobile games.
